The Grounds of Alexandria | Sydney
If you're in the Sydney area and looking for a place to go for the day, The Grounds of Alexandria is a must visit. This hidden gem in the trendy suburb of Alexandria, Sydney is a an Instagrammers paradise with photo opportunities everywhere you look. On Saturday's the courtyard area is buzzing with artisan stalls selling everything from fresh lemonade to oozing doughnuts, sweet treats to fruit kebabs. If you're in the mood for a little retail therapy, the market is the perfect place to pick up one off gifts, perfect for Christmas or just to treat yourself.
Their cakes alone are reason enough to travel there, but you'll be blown away when you see the decor with your own eyes! Each month the venue chooses a theme based on a trending topic - November was the imminent release of Frozen 2 so everywhere you looked there were white trees, icicles, fairy lights and much, much more...
There is a cosy cafe which is by no means understated. All produce is baked and cooked fresh on site daily and their cakes and patisseries are to die for! For the health-conscious, there are many gluten free and Vegan options available and if you're in need of a pick me up the coffee is divine and all hand-roasted on site daily. Read their amazing coffee story here.
If you're in the mood for something a little more sustainable, The Potting Shed is the perfect spot for some lunch, an afternoon cocktail or a light bite. You really have to see it to believe it but the ceiling is dripping with foliage, fairy lights and so much light pouring through the large windows that catches the greenery perfectly. The location even comes with its own resident parrot called Fluffy, who loves a dance and a photo or two! Their cocktail menu alone is sublime with modern twists on the classics that all come in their own signature glasses, or in my case, a flowerpot! At night the place transforms, guests are greeted with a firepit to toast marshmallows and Fluffy the parrot welcoming them in - a must visit Date Night spot and next on my list...
Not forgetting the gorgeous gardens and surrounds that are all immaculately kept and maintained and that play host to a number of wholefood eateries and food choices which you can enjoy under a canopy of leaves, lights and grapevines. Check them out here.
